Essays & commentary
Writing at the intersection of memory, migration, identity, and social justice.
My writing extends beyond academic journals and scholarly publications. Through essays,
opinion pieces, and public commentary, I explore the intersections of migration, race, identity, belonging,
family, memory, and social justice.
As a Grenadian-born immigrant, social worker, educator, and oral historian, I bring both personal experience
and professional perspectives to questions about the societies we inhabit, the histories we inherit, and the
responsibilities we carry toward one another.
Some essays examine immigration policies, structural racism, and the experiences of Black immigrants in the
United States. Others reflect on Caribbean identity, cultural traditions, caregiving, grief, and the
importance of preserving personal and collective histories.
My commentaries have appeared in Caribbean Magazine Plus, The Hartford Courant,
The Seattle Times, The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, Ms. Magazine, and
other publications. The collection below brings together selected writings organized by theme.
